Fund-raising for Peter's public school

A fund-raising project

Before we started our trip, we were very aware of the fact, that we will see wonderful and less wonderful aspects about this world. That there are sad things happen on this planet one knows even without making a trip, but maybe one doesn't get reminded on it very often. On such a journey, as we did, you are sometimes more often confronted with reality than you would like to. Not all people have the chance, the conditions and possibilities to lead a life as you and me.

This is why, we decided to support the project 'Peter's Public school' (Information at http://www.indienverein.de) in order to use the attention we might get to raise funds. We even went to Bah (northern India), to visit school, pupils and the director Brahm Datt Sharma. We stayed for one week and left with a mind full of impressions and one conviction: we had picked a reasonable and worth to support project. We had motivated some people to support us with 1 Cent for each kilometer we cycled and were quite surprised at the end of our trip:

7700, 55€

were collected.

Just before we came home, an email arrived us. Astrid & Mewes wanted to start a cycling trip through Asia and intended to continue our 1 Cent per kilometer idea. And this is how it became a relay. You can visit Astrid & Mewes on ther website www.rumradeln.de.

Even now we happily advertise for the Peter's public school and moderate interested peolpe at any time.

Why are we supporting this project in particular?

We are motivated to support this project in particular by several aspects...after all you can donate for so many reasonable things today. First of all we are convinced that help for these kids is definitely needful. We wrote some words about their situation above. Further information you´ll find at www.elena-erat.de .

But for sure there are further reasons for us. This project is still quite small. Theas means that every single support - every single donation is really noticed. You can proverbial watch what happens with you money. And there is no anonymous 'holding company' behind it, which normally has to pay its administrative machinery. This project has no expensive overhead. Every single Cent is used 1:1 at the Peter`s Public School. While Elena´s project still stays thrustworthy. Regularly different people check the finances or are on site - yes they are asked to do this. That speaks for itself, doesn`t it ????

Also Elena`s approach is right in our eyes. It is help for self-helping. It is not like a material gift of the 'white man' who is leaving the site afterwards and all of the good thoughts are messed up because locals cannot deal with the situation (how could they - they never learned it). No, the locals are integrated and are learning constantly how to use the help. And beside all the western influence it still stays an indian school. The pupils are being taught of indian teachers and are not being ripped out of there cultural background by german way of thinking. Whereas they still can be influenced, for instance being educated in hygiene or not using a ane to teach.

Finally one absolut personal reason is that the Peter`s Public School has been founded by worldcyclers and now we as worldcyclers can support it. This is a real fantastic thing for us.

We hope our reasons and motives initiate you to donate. Every single donation, it doesn`t matter if it is much, is needed and welcomed - and be aware:

With only 5-10 Euro you can pay a child for example its shoes, teaching material, school uniform, the transport to school via bus, some warm meals, etc. Most of the pupils are growing up under circumstances where this sum and the connected access to a school education can not been taken for granted.
